St Peter's church, holds the WW1 wooden burial cross for Christopher Cecil Tower killed by a German shell, who owned Weald Hall. His father gave him the property as a wedding present in 1913 and moved to nearby Wealdside House. The bride was Miss Dorothy Cynthia Surtess. C C Tower left a daughter, Pamela Sophia Tower, born June 1914 and a son, Christopher Thomas Tower, born June 1915. It was the latter who disposed of Weald Hall, leading to its demolition circa 1950. Cynthia remarried Patrick Ramsay October 1917. The church also has a memorial to C C Tower's younger brother Hugh C Tower, Royal Flying Corps, recorded as 'missing', but 'death accepted' 19th September 1916.
