Loughborough Derby Road Station (LNWR) LNWR Coal Stage - remains of turntable can be seen to the right of the white LMS corrugated steel shed next to the coal stage. Goods Shed and Coal Sidings. LNWR 5 Ton Yard Crane removed by this date. Station Closed to Passengers 1931 - Closed to all traffic 1955. The Charnwood Forest Railway ran from Charnwood Forest Junction on the east side of Coalville via stations at Coalville East, Whitwick, Thringstone, Grace Dieu, Shepshed, Snells Nook and on to the terminus at Loughborough Derby Road. The stations at Thringstone, Grace Dieu and Snells Nook were simple railway halts with a 60ft long platform made of railway sleepers. Several years after opening each of these halts was a given a small standard LNWR wooden hut for passengers to shelter in whilst waiting for their train. |
